CLASART CLASSIC produces and presents unique works of classical music. The company was founded in 1976 by Dr. Herbert Kloiber, who by that time had already produced as partner and managing director of the production company Unitel, a considerable number of major concerts, opera and ballet films – including recordings with Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein and Arthur Rubinstein.
In the early years, it produced timeless recordings featuring Glenn Gould, Mstislav Rostropovich and Vladimir Horowitz, some of which received multiple Emmy® Awards.
Today, CLASART CLASSIC produces recordings with the most renowned artists of our time. This includes a Bruckner cycle recorded by the internationally acclaimed Cleveland Orchestra and conducted by its chief conductor Franz Welser-Möst. This collaboration continued with a recording of a Brahms cycle. In addition, CLASART CLASSIC has a long-standing cooperation with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra led by the conductor Mariss Jansons.
Together with the Zurich Opera House, CLASART CLASSIC recorded 25 operas featuring international stars such as Renée Fleming, Jonas Kaufmann and Juan Diego Flórez. As part of the cooperation with the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, Giulio Cesare in Egitto (Julius Caesar in Egypt) was recorded in 2012 featuring Cecilia Bartoli. In 2013, a film version of Gluck's opera Orfeo ed Euridice was produced with Bejun Mehta in the Baroque Theater of Cesky Krumlov.
Since 2007, CLASART CLASSIC has been organizing popular live broadcasts in HD quality from the Metropolitan Opera in New York to cinemas in Germany and Austria. CLASART CLASSIC sells the TV rights of the Metropolitan Opera worldwide.
