Since 1976 Clasart Classic has been producing and presenting unique works of classical music. In the early years, timeless and still outstanding recordings, some of which have received Emmy®Awards, were made with Glenn Gould, Mstislav Rostropovich and Vladimir Horowitz. Unforgettable is the 3rd Piano Concerto by Sergei Rachmaninoff, performed by Vladimir Horowitz with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of conductor Zubin Mehta, which was broadcast live in stereophonic sound to Europe for the first time on September 24, 1978.
Today Clasart Classic presents productions with the most renowned artists of the present day. This resulted in a Bruckner cycle with the world-famous Cleveland Orchestra under the direction of its principal conductor Franz Welser-Möst, followed by the recording of a Brahms cycle. The recordings took place at unique venues such as the Basilica of the Monastery St. Florian near Linz, the Vienna Musikverein or the Severance Hall in Cleveland, Ohio. Clasart Classic has also worked for many years with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mariss Jansons. Together with this internationally renowned orchestra, Clasart Classic recorded a Beethoven cycle in Tokyo's Suntory Hall. As part of a cooperation with the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, a highly acclaimed recording of Handel's GIULIO CESARE IN EGITTO was produced. With Gluck's ORFEO ED EURIDICE an elaborate opera film was shot in the Baroque Theater of Cesky Krumlov.
Together with the Zurich Opera House, Clasart Classic recorded 25 operas with world stars such as Cecilia Bartoli, Jonas Kaufmann and Juan Diego Flórez. Since 2010, Clasart Classic has also distributed the entire TV rights catalog of the Metropolitan Opera worldwide. This includes not only historical recordings with legendary opera stars such as Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, Jessye Norman, Christa Ludwig or Mirella Freni. There are also about 150 HD-recorded operas from recent years, performed by the crème de la crème of contemporary opera stars like Anna Netrebko, Piotr Beczala, Diana Damrau, Elina Garanca, Roberto Alagna, Bryn Terfel or Joyce DiDonato.
In total, the Clasart Classic catalog includes over 250 operas, nearly 50 concerts and numerous documentaries and portraits from the world of classical music.
